CEDPR Reinvited to Doha Forum to Contribute to Global Security

On 10-11 December 2023, the 21st Doha Forum will be held in Doha, Qatar. As a long-term partner of the Forum, the Centre for European and Asian Development Research (CEDPR) will host two sub-forums on "Diplomatic Multilateral Dialogue and Regional Security" and "Prospects for Peace in Ukraine".

Founded in 2000, the Doha Forum is a platform for global dialogue on the major challenges facing the world today. Focusing on the theme of "Building Shared Futures", this year's Doha Forum will invite the world's top officials, business executives and experts in related fields to discuss the most pressing unresolved issues such as international relations and security, economic policy and development, cybersecurity, data privacy and artificial intelligence, and sustainability. The conference will explore the most pressing unresolved issues such as international relations and security, economic policy and development, data privacy and artificial intelligence, sustainability, etc., in an attempt to provide scientific solutions.

In 2023, the Russian-Ukrainian war has not yet stopped, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has arisen again. The world is grappling with unprecedentedly divisive forces in geopolitics, technological development and international trade, where great power rivalries threaten to further fragment and polarise the global order, and where national conflicts are driven by regional and international interests. Technology, which promised to connect the world, is increasingly isolating peoples and nations, and calling into question the ideas and values of human ingenuity. Despite the forces of division, the reality of our connectedness remains. True isolation is not a sustainable option. Now more than ever, active engagement, systemic thinking and results-oriented dialogue are needed.

Against this backdrop, on the morning of 11 December, CEDPR will first co-host a sub-forum on "Diplomatic Multilateral Dialogue and Regional Security" with the Middle East Institute, a leading US think tank. The forum will focus on the current conflict situation in the Middle East and North Africa, bringing together influential perspectives from within and outside the region to discuss broader issues such as the future of diplomacy and conflict resolution, proliferation prevention, infrastructure development, and economic development. The forum will be moderated by Paul Salem, President and CEO of the Middle East Institute in Washington, D.C., and will feature a dialogue with a panel of CEDPR experts, Manisha Singh, Director of the Sunstone Strategy Group.

In the afternoon of the 11th CEDPR will hold a sub-forum on "Prospects for Peace in Ukraine". The forum aims to discuss the role of international influence and relations in preventing long-term conflict in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian and Palestinian-Israeli conflicts, as well as strategies that can reduce tensions and promote peaceful resolution of conflicts, and ultimately shed light on potential avenues for achieving lasting regional stability and cooperation. The forum was moderated by CNN correspondent Melissa Bell and featured a panel of CEDPR experts, Fabian Zuleeg, CEO of the European Policy Center, the Atlantic Council's Scowcroft Centre for Strategy and Security, and the Atlantic Council's Scowcroft Centre for Security and Strategic Studies. Paula Dobriansky, CEO of the European Policy Centre, Fabian Zuleeg, Vice President of the Atlantic Council's Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security, and Jacek Siewiera, Director of the Polish National Security Agency. Jacek Siewiera, Director of Poland's National Security Service, and others participated in the dialogue.

Rina Amiri, Yemeni Minister for Foreign Affairs and Overseas Koreans Ahmed Awad Ahmed Binmubarak, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al Safadi, World Economic Forum President Borge Brende, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh, and the President of the United Nations. Mohammad Shtayyeh, Prime Minister of Palestine; Timothy Lenderking, U.S. Special Envoy to Yemen; Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein, Director of the International Peace Institute and former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights; Alia Al-Thani, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN Sheikha Alya Ahmed Saif Al Thani, Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Achim Steiner, among others.

As a global platform for discussion and dialogue, the Doha Forum brings together leaders from around the world to facilitate the exchange of ideas and make recommendations for concrete actions and policies. The Doha Forum facilitates the exchange of ideas, policy development and action-oriented proposals. While the Doha Forum began with a greater emphasis on regional issues, it has increasingly taken on a more global orientation, serving as a global platform for the open exchange of ideas and the development of pragmatic policies, as well as a stage for influential individuals. 2023 will build on the foundations of the previous Doha Forums, incorporating the latest discourse and laying the groundwork for future action on how the globe can build interconnected prosperity and well-being for the future. prosperity and well-being.
