CEDPR Participates in Horasis Asia Conference to Explain the Concept of Asian Co-operation
On 3 December local time, the Centre for Development and Research in Europe and Asia (CEDPR) participated in the Horasis Asia Conference 2023 in Ho Chi Minh City district, Vietnam. Vice Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang, Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Duong Province, Vo Van Minh, and Chairman of Becamex IDC, Nguyen Van Hung, were among those who attended the conference.
The conference consisted of three plenary sessions, including an opening session in which CEDPR spoke on the theme "Leading Asia's Revival". A new high-level programme is being developed to raise Asian countries to high-income levels by the middle of this century. Against this backdrop, the Centre, together with Roger King, Founder and Chairman of ODS Holdings Limited, Hong Kong; Mai An, Co-Founder and President of IMT Solutions, Vietnam; Ben Nelson, Chairman and CEO of Minerva Project, USA; and Vo Xuan Vinh, Professor of the University of Economics and Business Administration, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, spoke on the theme of "Global Economic Downturn". "How will the global economic downturn affect these programmes? Which countries are most likely to succeed? What are the potential risks?" and what are the potential risks? Richard David Hames, Founding Director of the Thailand Institute of Asian Vision, moderated the session.
In its speech, the CEDPR expert team said that China and ASEAN, especially Vietnam, have great potential for co-operation and ASEAN has become one of China's largest trade partners. Vietnam, with a population of nearly 100 million, is a member of the CPTPP, has a similar culture with China, and is one of China's largest trading partners among the 10 ASEAN countries, and still has huge growth potential. Chinese enterprises have extensive room and opportunities for development in Vietnam. China and Vietnam should continue to promote the development and enhancement of "One Belt, One Road" in ASEAN, especially focusing on the construction of railways and other infrastructures, for example, there are already a lot of models on the basis of the Yavan Railway and the China-Laos Railway, etc., and in the future, we should also consider the construction of railways between China and Vietnam, with a view to forming a hyper-connected railway network in ASEAN and further deepening the co-operation between China and ASEAN. China's co-operation with ASEAN will be further deepened. The internationalisation of Chinese enterprises in the 10 ASEAN countries will have a wide impact on the enhancement of Asian integration.
The second and third plenary sessions focused on the themes of "Responding to Climate Emergencies" and "Supporting Innovation for Asian Entrepreneurs" respectively, with guests actively sharing their views on whether it is necessary to relocate a city or an island to a safer place, what the impacts of such measures will be on businesses and economies around the globe, and how Asian countries can support innovators and their entrepreneurial centres.
